Julie Dolan is a native San Fernando “Valley Girl” and began dance lessons at the age of 3 and acting and piano lessons at the age of 9. She attended California State University Northridge for a short time but her continued work in Television and Film kept her away from her studies.
In her early career, she appeared in several After-School Specials as well as Episodic Television and Feature Films including: Blood Beach, Starman, Beverly Hills Cop 3 & Baseketball. She had semi-recurring roles on the Warner Brothers TV show, The Gilmore Girls, Warner Brothers TV drama Without A Trace and The Conan Show.
Her roots are the theatre and she performs in plays in and around Los Angeles whenever she can.
As a dancer, she belonged to a dance troupe and performed for Benefit shows in Los Angeles. She was a series regular in the children’s series Old MacDonald’s Sing-a-long-Farm, (Lifetime TV’s first children’s series) and also on the hit Fox Children’s series Rimba’s Island. She had the privilege of dancing in shows with Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Van Johnson & Ann Miller to name a few.
She got her start dancing in costume character work at Universal Studios in such live action shows as American Tail, Fievel Goes West, The Land Before Time, The Flintstones and The Rug Rats to name a few.
She also spent time as a magician’s assistant/dancer performing in maximum security prisons throughout the U.S. and is very proud to have toured U.S. Military Bases around the world performing for our troops.
Additionally, she was one of a group of performers invited by The Clinton Whitehouse to perform at the annual Whitehouse Easter Egg Roll.
As a voice actress, Julie has worked on several TV commercials including a campaign for OnStar with Tiger Woods and Jeff Gordon. And, after a six months search for an actress who could sound like Princess Leia from Star Wars, Disney Imagineering hired her to voice the role of Princess Leia in the remodeled Star Tours Ride at Disneyland and Disney World which opened in October 2011. Dave Filoni from Lucas Films heard her voice and thought she was the perfect fit to be the choice for Princess Leia in future Disney/Lucas Films projects. She also voiced the role of “Baby James” in the popular episode Two Princesses and a Baby of Sofia The First. Currently, Julie is the Systems Announcer Voice in the popular Mobile App Video Game Arena of Valor and was excited to win the role of “Elmyra Gainsborough” in the insanely popular Video Game Final Fantasy VII – The Remake
Additionally, Julie has always loved playing music. In addition to piano & keyboards, she also plays percussion, harmonica and sings backup in: “Charlie’s Angels – The Band” – 1970’s Cover Band
“RagDolls” – The All Female Tribute to AEROSMITH
Julie was able to combine her musicianship and her costumed character work when she booked the Keytar playing Hamster in the 2016 KIA SOUL commercial with Nathaniel Rateliff.
You may also recognize her from the VH1 Classic Rock series: “Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp” – Season 1. She has performed with such noted rock icons as Brett Michaels, Kip Winger, Michael Anthony, Ace Frehley, Rudy Sarzo & Lita Ford to name a few.
Julie and her husband own J. Dolan Communications – a successful Walkie-Talkie rental house. Years ago, her dad and sister started a rental business in Hollywood. They rented projectors to show dailies and after a successful run – they started renting Walkie-Talkies. In 2007, Julie and her husband (Actor/Stuntman Lon Gowan) took over the family business which continues to flourish today.
quote-leftYou want to be an actor? Get into classes. There’s nothing worse than someone who is inexperienced getting in front of a Casting Director or agent. They will remember you in the wrong way. Be prepared and ready before you start auditioning.
And remember it’s “Show Business”. You need to know the business side of it. The side in between the takes. Entertainment. Business. Know how the business works.
Don’t sign a contract without someone else looking it over on your behalf. As a voice actor. . you may have a great voice and people say “You should be a Voice actor”. No. It’s not about your voice. It’s about your acting. You want to be a voice actor? Take Acting classes. You will be auditioning alongside of famous actors. Who do you think they will hire? This is not an overnight thing. This is a lifetime commitment. Most people give it up. Don’t bank on getting lucky. Hard work and daily persistence with no guarantee.

The truth: What you resist will persist. When you allow things to 'be' just the way they are, you can create miracles for yourself. Ride the horse in the direction it's going and you'll end up in the control of the reins. (And enjoy the ride)!
